Within the academic activities of Astronomy Department , by working with (photographing Committee of Astronomical Phenomena), to monitor transiting Mercury planet phenomenon in front of the Sun on 9/5/2016, at 2:00 P.M. to the Sundown ,as this transmitting of Mercury lasted for several hours to fully cross the sun's f face.

It is worth mentioning that this uncommon phenomenon happens about 13 times in a century, and the last time such a transit took place was in 2006.

This astrological phenomenon was observed by the postgraduates & undergraduates as well as a group of the specialized professors, taking into consideration, viewing this event safely requires telescopes of the department or the available high-powered binoculars fitted with solar filters made of specially-coated glass or Mylar.Knowing that, this event was covered by the media devices represented by the Iraqi satellite channel
